Portishead’s Rare Return: A Cinematic Tribute for Palestine at Brian Eno’s Charity Concert
Sep 12, 2025
The legendary trip-hop band Portishead will make a highly anticipated return on September 17, 2025, for a unique performance as part of the “Together for Palestine” charity concert, organized by Brian Eno at London’s Wembley Arena. This initiative aims to raise funds for humanitarian aid in Gaza, supporting the UK-based charity Choose Love, which collaborates with Palestinian organizations to provide emergency relief. Although Portishead will not perform live, the trio Beth Gibbons, Geoff Barrow, and Adrian Utley has recorded a special rendition of their iconic song “Roads” (1994), which will be showcased on a large screen during the event. In a statement, the band expressed: “We are deeply proud to stand in solidarity with Palestine and contribute to this vital event. The genocide must end.”
This reunion marks a rare appearance for Portishead, who have performed only once in the past decade, at a 2022 charity concert for Ukraine. The “Together for Palestine” event will also feature artists like Damon Albarn, Jamie XX, Sampha, Celeste, and Palestinian musicians such as Saint Levant and Elyanna, alongside notable figures like Benedict Cumberbatch and Jameela Jamil. Though tickets are sold out, the public is encouraged to support the cause through donations and official merchandise purchases via the event’s website. This evening promises to be a powerful moment of solidarity and music, amplifying Portishead’s legacy of social engagement.
